56 - Carpe Diem (22/8/11)
What a great night.
Sandy came over last night. Got a wee tad wasted. Pub lunch this afternoon sat by the canal and a cheeky one on the way to Carpe.
Night was pretty good and my set was one of the best I’ve ever done (by a long way). I was nervous because of Sandy being there and because Sarah filmed it for Ross’ birthday present. But went very well indeed.
And we finished the night with two MC’s battling it out on stage. Most entertaining indeed.

Kung Fu International
Leonard Cohen Killed My Car
Jesus Was a Hippy
Never Trust a Bishop
Evidently Chickentown
I Wish…

55 - Mañana Nights (30/5/11)
Great night. Definitely one of my best sets yet. Got a lot of laughs and applause. Plus a fair bit of back slapping after too 🙂
Introduced Chasing Dragons with my Bill & Ted line again (last time). Bit of unpleasantness outside with someone trying to kick off with the band so a fair few people missed Tunji. Shame too as they are just getting better and better.
Set List
Twat
Friggin’ in the Riggin’
Nolan Sisters
Never Trust a Bishop
Jesus was a Hippy
Nursery Rhymes for Adults
Pest
Boobs
Things You’ll Never See
Chickentown
Kung Fu International
54 - Monday 11th April
Great night. LJ family was all out and on top form. Harry stayed the whole night but says he’ll start doing less and less as the weeks go on.
He did let me introduce Chasing Dragons though. I even quoted Bill and Ted, “And now, opening for Iron Maiden CHASING DRAAGOOONS”
They are a good band and Tank is a GREAT front woman….Just a shame I always fancy the ones I can’t have 🙁
53 - The king is dead. Long live the king
Horrendously painful night.
Some good acts on but Harry’s last night at LJ. Is being forced into doing more traditional family things and has to give it up.
Never seen so much pain in someone before when he announced at the end of the night it was his last. Looked like he was having his soul ripped in half.
Definitely never cried so much in a pub before.
52 - Headingly Campus – 1/4/11
Instinct’s tribute night.
Pretty busy, fair few good bands. Cabaret Chris renamed to Short Dark Stranger.
Not happy with the amount of crappy covers though, especially Joy division.
Instinct video was incredibly lovely and moving. Played 3 tracks of him filmed live at Carpe on the projector. Everyone joined in and cheered and so on as if he was really there. Wonderful moment. Not many dry eyes in the house after that.
My set was one of the best I’ve done. Half a dozen people or more came up afterwards to tell me how much they liked it…I’m definitely getting better at it.
Set List
Friggin’ in the Riggin’
Jesus Was a Hippy
Never Trust a Bishop
Evidently Chicken Town
Kung Fu International
51 - Bad Brains
Great night last night. Small crowd to start with but soon packed out for the bands.
Swindells were great as always and Rory on the hurdy gurdy went down really well.
Had to do a slightly shortened set myself but went OK.
set list
Twat
Friggin’ in the Riggin’
Nursery Rhymes for adults
Jesus was a Hippy
Never Trust a Bishop
Evidently Chicken Town
Kung Fu International
50 - Coolness
I am so ridiculously buzzing right now. Performed a few John Cooper Clarke poems at Carpe and it went down well. I, me I performed in front of my friends and they liked what I did….I’ve got a full on rock n roll star buzz going on right now.
Haven’t been this happy since BRMC in Shunt Vaults with Sandy.
49 - Opening scene to my movie
[VOICEOVER]
I don’t even sleep any more.
Just lie on the bed and stare at the ceiling.
Counting the cracks.
Not even sure if they’re in the ceiling or in reality.
Life and death.
Love and hate.
Reality and dreams.
There’s no difference any more.
The lines blurred a long time ago.
I wonder what I’d do if I woke up?
What would the world be like?
Who would I be?
The dream me or the real me?
Guess there’s only one way to find out…
[SFX] sound of a man vomiting what sounds like his entire intestines up for a good 5 minutes or more.
[Friendly voice] Welcome back, mate.
43 - First gig of the year…
…except The Complete Stone Roses that I got a free ticket for but I’m not really counting that…
Evile – Old school thrash metal
What can I say…
I rocked, I moshed, I circle pitted. I was as one with a thousand flailing limbs. The drums and guitars pounded like an army of cavalry charging into battle.
It was tribal. It was neolithic. It was goddamned caveman behaviour at its most basic level.
I was pushed and shoved. I flailed and fell. I was bruised and I bled and was dragged back into the heaving throng as agile and lithe as a drunken, three-legged beast of burden.
It’s a place I call home if home is where the heart is for mine was beating a millionfold. Pumping blood to my extremities lest they fail me and leave me on the sidelines and my mind and soul being devoid of such chaotic, savage beauty.
May I mosh till I die.
42 - Birthday 2009
Think we’ll skip over this one.
